David Kendall - PPC for Brentwood & Ongar

Brentwood & Ongar Liberal Democrats are pleased to announce that popular campaigner and Brentwood Borough Councillor David Kendall has been selected as their parliamentary candidate to fight the seat at the next general election. David will take on sitting MP Eric Pickles in what promises to be a keenly fought contest with everything to play for.

The Liberal Democrats came a clear second in Brentwood & Ongar at the last General Election and are considered by most people to be the only serious challengers to the Conservatives.

David, 48, has lived in the constituency for over 20 years and served as a councillor for most of that time. He is leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Brentwood Borough Council and last contested the parliamentary seat at the 2001 General Election. David is also founder of the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association and Executive member of the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce. He is well known for his campaigns on health, transport and pensioner issues and operates a small business serving local residents.

Of his selection, Cllr Kendall said:

"I am delighted to have been chosen to fight this seat and will be aiming to give Eric Pickles a contest to remember. Many residents believe the Conservatives have become arrogant and complacent and they want someone new to be their champion and fight their corner. I would like to be that champion: I would work hard for everyone in the community and believe I have the energy, experience and enthusiasm to make a strong impact at Westminster".
