New Sunday Bus Service

After years of campaigning by local councillors, the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association and local residents, the southern part of Brentwood is finally getting a much needed Sunday and Bank Holiday bus service. The decision was made by Cllr Norman Hume the Cabinet member for Highways at Essex County Council on Monday.

Bus users across a great swathe of Brentwood have been without a Sunday bus service for sometime. These areas include parts of Brentwood North, Shenfield, the Huttons and Brentwood South. The fight for this Sunday service has been driven by the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association ably led by Chairman Wendy Way and Secretary Cllr David Kendall. Speaking after the news was announced Mrs Way said:

"This is fantastic news, we have waited so long for something to happen and after years of campaigning by so many people we have finally got the Sunday and bank holiday service we've been fighting for. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved for helping us achieve this wonderful result"

Cllr David Kendall said:

"When we first set up the Brentwood Bus & Rail Users Association four years ago getting this much needed Sunday & Bank holiday service was one of our main objectives and I am delighted that at last it is going to happen. When I got elected as the County Councillor for Brentwood South in June my first act was to call on the Cabinet member and the Transport Dept to support this scheme and I am delighted they have listened to me and the many others who have been fighting for this service.

The new pilot bus service will start on Sunday October 4th and will initially run for six months. If the trial is successful it will be extended to 2011.
