Lib Dem Leader Cllr David Kendall has raised serious concerns about the stains that are starting to appear on the new stone work being laid in Brentwood High Street.

Many areas have already been stained with drink and various other liquid spills and Cllr Kendall is concerned that because of the porous nature of the stone that some of these stains could be permanent.

He has written to the Cabinet Member Cllr Norman Hume at Essex County Council asking:

  • What tests were done on the stones to check on possible staining problems ?
  • Whether any costings have been built into the works for a sealant to be applied to the stones
  • Whether Brentwood Borough Council been given details of the best method of cleaning these stones.

Cllr Kendall said "With millions of pounds is being spent on the High Street improvements I believe it is vital this staining issue is properly addressed otherwise the new stone work will quickly look an eyesore.

"I hope that Essex County Council and Brentwood Borough Council will be able to give me the assurances I am seeking and more importantly put residents' minds at rest.

"I have also made representations on Health & Safety issues in the High Street and the poor location of the bus stops in William Hunter Way".
