Call for Minor Injuries & chemotherapy unit at community hospital

January 20, 2010 6:00 AM

NHS Screening PlanBrentwood Community Hospital has now been open for a year and Dr Jon Tuppen reported back to councillors on the hospital's performance to date.

Lib Dem leader Cllr David Kendall said he felt there was a strong need in the community for the Hospital to provide a Minor Injuries Unit and asked if the matter could be seriously considered. He was pleased to hear that the matter had been considered but was currently on hold mainly due to funding issues. However it was hoped there might be more news on what was happening towards the end of the year.

Cllr Kendall also asked about the possibility of Chemotherapy treatment being made available at Brentwood to help local residents who had to currently travel to Queens in Romford. He was told that there was a possibility something could be done for those patients needing less serious chemotherapy treatment.

Cllr Kendall said:

"I was very pleased to hear that the Minor Injuries Unit and Chemotherapy treatment were being seriously considered as possible new services. I know that both would make a real difference to the lives of Brentwood residents by ensuring that more key health services were available on our doorstep.

"I believe Dr John Tuppen and his colleagues have already done a tremendous job at the new hospital and hope that by working with others they will be able to deliver even more quality services to local residents in the future".
