Independent Candidate Sapwell joins Liberal Democrats

Cllr David Kendall welcomes James Sapwell to the Lib Dems
James Sapwell, who stood for parliament in last month's general election, has joined the Liberal Democrats, citing the party as the one that enables him to remain true to his core values whilst furthering his political career.
Cllr David Kendall, Liberal Democrat Group leader, has welcomed James to the party, saying:
"James impressed many people when he stood for parliament, especially the younger people who live in Brentwood. They really need someone who understands the issues they are facing with the enthusiasm and desire to do something about them.
"He will be a real asset to the Liberal Democrats and to Brentwood as a whole. James was praised by Martin Bell, who stood here in 2001 and backed our candidate at the 2005 general election."
Of his decision, James, 19, said:
"I had made the decision to join a political party during my campaign and joining the Liberal Democrats was always the logical choice for me.
"I looked at a few manifestos and spoke to a lot of people about it and they urged me to be careful in choosing the right party. I spoke in detail to Cllr David Kendall during the campaign and I didn't need a lot of persuasion that the Lib Dems was the right party for me. I got the feeling they genuinely wanted me on board and I'm pleased to be a part of it now. I've been made to feel really welcome and am excited about the future of the party and what the future holds for us."
"I want to make a difference and believe big opportunities exist for us locally and nationally. I'm sure with the backing of the party I can flourish and fulfil my political potential."
