Conservatives say NO to Borough-wide consultation on William Hunter Way

11.40.00pm GMT Wed 12th Dec 2007

The Liberal Democrat group is disappointed that the Conservative majority gave a resounding NO to their call for a Borough-wide consultation on the William Hunter Way.

The motion, tabled by Cllr David Kendall, asked that members supported the following:

"The Liberal Democrat Group call upon the Borough Council to undertake a full Borough wide consultation in the Council's Vision magazine, or through such other mechanisms as appropriate, when the final plans for the William Hunter Way development are submitted. This action will enable residents from across the Borough to have their say on the plans and ensure that Councillors are fully aware of their views before a final decision is made."

Cllr Kendall said:

"With the plans being withdrawn and due to return for consideration in the New Year, this gave the council an opportunity to canvass the views of all residents, not just those in the immediate vicinity. After all, this is much more than just a new cinema, it is a major decision for the town and it affects everyone in Brentwood."

"We wanted to provide the opportunity for everyone to have their say"

The motion was defeated by 25 (Conservative votes) to 10.
