Liberal Democrat Borough councillors in Pilgrims Hatch ward were celebrating the news this week that action was going to be taken at last to improve the dangerous Sandpit Lane/Ongar Road junction.

The matter was discussed by members of the Council at last weeks Environment Panel and it was agreed that the detailed design work for the junction would now go ahead with a view to introducing a small solid island roundabout.

Lib Dem ward member Cllr David Kendall highlighted the fact that over 200 residents had recently signed their petition calling for urgent action to be taken at the junction.

He said:

" After many years of promises and delays at last something is going to be done. This junction is a major accident black spot in the borough and a source of great frustration and anxiety to local residents. We now look forward to seeing the much needed improvements implemented as soon as possible"
