Increasing recycling efforts would have been a better use of resource

Essex Tory waste plans are in total confusion after their second PFI bid is rejected by DEFRA and the decision to go ahead with the Rivenhall MBT plant has been called in by the government. The latest bid which seems to have been cobbled together overnight and without any consultation is very different with no incinerator and plans for all residual Essex waste to be sent to Basildon.

Said County Councillor David Kendall, Essex Liberal Democrats waste spokesman:

"The Tories have wasted many years putting together two failed bids.

"The Liberal Democrats believe this time, effort and cost should have been put into increasing recycling. This could have avoided the need for the enormous expensive waste processing plants that the Tories say we need."
